Daxxify vs Botox wrinkle relaxer treatment in Tucson

For more than two decades, Botox has been the name everyone knows when it comes to smoothing frown lines, forehead creases, and crow's feet. But it's no longer the only option. Daxxify, a newer FDA-approved wrinkle relaxer, has quickly earned a following for one big reason: results that can last noticeably longer. At Bespoke Beauty, we offer both, so we hear one question all the time: which one should I choose? Here's a clear look at how they compare.

What Do Daxxify and Botox Have in Common?

Both Daxxify and Botox are neuromodulators made from botulinum toxin type A. They work the same basic way: by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that tell certain facial muscles to contract. When those muscles relax, the skin above them smooths out, softening dynamic wrinkles, the lines that form from repeated expressions like frowning, squinting, and raising your brows.

Both treatments are quick (usually 10 to 20 minutes), involve a few small injections with a very fine needle, and require little to no downtime. Both are FDA-approved for glabellar lines (the "11s" between the brows) and are commonly used by experienced injectors for other areas like the forehead and crow's feet.

The Key Differences

1. How Long Results Last

This is the headline difference. Botox results typically last 3 to 4 months, which is why most Botox clients come in three or four times a year. Daxxify was designed to last longer: in clinical trials, results lasted about 6 months on average, and some patients saw results last up to 9 months. For many people, that means just two treatments a year instead of three or four.

2. How Quickly Results Appear

Daxxify tends to start working quickly, with many patients noticing a difference within 1 to 2 days. Botox typically begins to show results in 3 to 5 days, with full results around 10 to 14 days. If you have an event coming up soon, that faster onset can be a nice advantage, though we always recommend scheduling any neuromodulator at least two weeks before a big day so you can see your full result.

3. What's in the Formula

Every neuromodulator needs a stabilizer to keep the active ingredient intact. Botox uses human serum albumin, a protein derived from human blood plasma. Daxxify instead uses a proprietary peptide, making it free of human and animal-derived ingredients. For clients who prefer to avoid those components, Daxxify is an appealing choice.

4. A Long Track Record vs. a Newer Option

Botox Cosmetic was approved by the FDA in 2002 and has been used safely in millions of treatments worldwide. It's the most-studied neuromodulator in aesthetics, and that long history gives many clients peace of mind. Daxxify received FDA approval in 2022, so it's newer, but it went through extensive clinical trials and has a similar safety profile to other wrinkle relaxers.

5. Units and Cost

Neuromodulators are priced per unit, but units aren't interchangeable between brands. A treatment area typically takes more units of Daxxify than of Botox, and Daxxify generally has a higher upfront cost per visit. Because results can last roughly twice as long, though, many clients find the cost per year comes out similar, with fewer appointments to fit into a busy schedule. Which One Is Right for You?

Daxxify may be a great fit if you:

  • Want fewer appointments per year
  • Feel like Botox wears off too quickly for you
  • Prefer a formula without human or animal-derived ingredients
  • Would like results to show up a little faster

Botox may be a great fit if you:

  • Are new to neuromodulators and want the most established option
  • Have had great results with Botox and are happy with your routine
  • Prefer a lower cost per visit
  • Like being able to fine-tune your look more often throughout the year

Switching is easy, too. Many of our clients move from Botox to Daxxify (or back again) depending on their goals, budget, and calendar. There's no single "best" product, only the one that best fits you.
